Funding awarded for new 3G pitch

People living in Leverington are set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities. Leverington Sports & Social Club and Leverington Sports Youth FC have been awarded a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to build a floodlit 9v9 3G pitch.

The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.

Leverington Sports Youth Vice Chairman Matt Warren, said “After four and half years of hard work and determination by the club committees, I am delighted that we have been successful on obtaining a large grant that will go towards a modern 3G football pitch. This facility is not only life changing for the people that use the club, but also for the whole local community. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at the club for getting involved in fundraising activities and also to the many local companies, groups and individuals who have contributed – words cannot express my gratitude. Lastly I’d like to thank Cambridgeshire FA who believed in the project and have been so supportive throughout the process.”

All Weather Pitch For The Community

Players from the club’s men’s, women’s and youth teams, as well as players from other local grassroots clubs and social groups, will be able to enjoy a brand-new all-weather pitch for training and games, which will represent a significant improvement to the facilities at Leverington Sports & Social Club site.

Steve Barclay, MP for North East Cambridgeshire said “I’m delighted that Leverington Sports and Social Club have been successful in their funding bid and are able to realise their dream for a 3G pitch. This really shows what can be done by communities pulling together. They have done an incredible fundraising job and have been rewarded with extra funding that will deliver an amazing asset that many can enjoy.”

Improving Opportunities

Leverington Sports & Social Club and Leverington Sports Youth FC worked with the Football Foundation and Cambridgeshire FA to secure a £473,788 grant towards the project.

Katie Critchley, Football Development Manager at Cambridgeshire FA said “this is fantastic news. The new 9v9 3G pitch will make a huge difference to both the residents of Leverington and the wider community, offering additional football opportunities for players of all abilities.

Leverington Youth Sports FC club official Matt Warren and Leverington Sports & Social Club Chairman Steve Fisher, have done an incredible job in raising substantial funding to secure the new facility, and have really engaged with the local community to ensure their efforts will meet the needs of all participants. Well done to all involved!”

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This grant award to Leverington Sports & Social Club and Leverington Youth FC towards developing a new 3G pitch as part is great news for the local community.

“It will support people’s ability to play our national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country. It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support Leverington in developing the new 3G pitch for their local community.

“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, Government and Sport England – to support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
